Shimano's simplest drop-bar groupset, built for everyday bikes

ESSA U2000 is Shimano's 8-speed entry range: a single chainring, a wide 11-45T cassette and DUAL CONTROL LEVERS with cable-actuated disc brakes. It suits commuters, fitness bikes and budget gravel builds where a robust, easy-to-service drivetrain matters more than gear count. The RD-U2000 is made for a 45T low sprocket, and the 11-45 cassette uses exactly its 34T capacity, so this is the cassette offered.

  • BL-U2030-L left brake lever (mechanical disc)
  • RD-U2000 rear derailleur, GS cage, 45T
  • CS-HG300-8 cassette, 11-45T (HG spline)
  • Shimano CN-HG40 8-speed chain, 116 links, with connecting pin

Options

  • FC-U2000 crankset 170 mm, 32T; or choose the FC-U2001-1 40T with chain guard (optional: add it unless your bike is an e-bike or keeps its crank)
  • BR-RS305 flat-mount mechanical disc calipers, front and rear
  • RT-CL700 Center Lock rotors (choose size)
  • BB-UN300 square-taper bottom bracket, 68 x 123 mm (confirm axle length for your crank)

The crank, bottom bracket, brakes and rotors are optional extras that start at 0, so e-bikes and bikes keeping their own parts are not charged for them. Every other part can be deselected if you already have it. Levers take NEW SUPER SLR road calipers and 23.8 to 24.2 mm drop bars. ESSA is an 8-speed Hyperglide system: use an 8-speed chain, not a LINKGLIDE one.

Every part in this kit is covered by Shimano's standard manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Wear from normal use, incorrect installation or crash damage is not covered. For any warranty claim or support, return the part to Tune Cycles and we will handle it with Shimano.
