The Shimano ESSA BL-U2030 is the left-hand, brake-only drop-bar lever for a 1x ESSA build. Ergonomics that suit every hand

Shimano borrowed the hood and blade shape from its premium mechanical Dual Control levers, so the BL-U2030 sits comfortably for small and large hands alike. The result is a secure grip on the hoods and an easy reach to the blade from the drops.

Smoother braking with New Super SLR

The New Super SLR design lowers friction across the lever, cable and caliper, improving brake response and modulation. That makes it easier to meter braking force, which matters most on loose gravel and longer descents.

Built for a simple 1x cockpit

Because the left lever only handles braking, it keeps a single-chainring drivetrain uncluttered. The matching ST-U2030 on the right does the shifting, so you run one shifter and two brakes.

Compatibility & fit

This is the left-hand lever. In the standard Australian setup the left lever operates the rear brake (the right operates the front); shifting is handled separately by the right-hand ST-U2030. The BL-U2030 is a mechanical (cable-actuated) road/short-pull lever built for mechanical disc brake calipers and is part of Shimano's 8-speed ESSA series. Pair it with an ESSA right-hand shifter (ST-U2030) for a 1x front-single drop-bar build. Confirm your caliper is a mechanical short-pull road unit before fitting.
