Shimano studied a range of hand shapes when developing the lever position and bracket, then shortened the reach distance so more riders can sit comfortably on the hoods and reach the lever with ease. The result is a natural hand position and easier braking, whether you are climbing, descending or riding for hours.

Reliable hydraulic braking

The integrated hydraulic system uses Shimano Mineral oil to deliver smooth, predictable braking with minimal effort, holding its feel in heat, rain and on long descents far better than cable-actuated alternatives.

Front shifting

This left lever handles front-derailleur shifts across the two chainrings of the Tiagra 2x11 drivetrain, with the short, defined lever action that makes Shimano road shifting easy to learn and consistent to use.

Compatibility & fit

The ST-R4020-L is the left lever of the Tiagra R4000 (2x11-speed) road group and operates the front (2-speed) derailleur. On an Australian setup the left lever operates the rear brake. It is designed to pair with the BR-RS405 flat-mount hydraulic disc caliper and uses Shimano Mineral oil with the SM-BH59 hydraulic hose. It is sold here as a single left lever, not a pair or a complete set.
