The Shimano CUES BL-U4030-L is the brake-only left lever for a 1x drop-bar bike running CUES hydraulic disc brakes. It shares the reworked U4030 lever shape with the ST-U4030 dual control levers, so both hands get the same comfortable, short-reach hoods and the same light, consistent hydraulic braking, without a front shifter you do not need.

Control that fits your hands

Shimano moved the lever pivot and reshaped the bracket on the U4030 series after studying different hand shapes, so the brake lever sits closer to the bar and is easier to reach from the hoods or the drops. Reach adjust then fine-tunes that distance to suit you.

Hydraulic braking for 1x set-ups

A hydraulic system gives lighter lever effort, better modulation and no cable friction to maintain. Because there is no front derailleur on a 1x bike, this lever drops the shift internals and simply matches the ST-U4030-R on the other side of the bar.

Compatibility & fit

This is the left-hand lever. In the standard Australian set-up the left lever operates the rear brake. Shimano's recommended caliper is the BR-U6030 flat-mount hydraulic disc brake, sold separately. Clamps to 23.8–24.2 mm drop handlebars. Pairs with the ST-U4030-R right-hand 9-speed dual control lever on 1x CUES drivetrains; for a 2x drivetrain use the ST-U4030-L shift/brake lever instead. Not compatible with mechanical (cable) disc brake calipers.
