A 240 DEG wheelset for the price of a 350 DEG
DT Swiss's Australian distributor builds these to order: silver 240 DEG hubs from DT's Three Decades edition, laced with DT Competition spokes to silver FR 541 or FR 571 rims. For a limited time, while stocks last, they're $1,199 a set (RRP $1,599). That's the same price as our hand-built 350 DEG sets and $400 less than our hand-built 240 DEG sets.
The hub
The 240 DEG runs DT Swiss's Ratchet DEG system with 90-tooth ratchets, so it picks up drive every 4° straight from the box. DT Swiss lists the rear hub at 270g in 12×148 6-bolt XD, about 37g lighter than the 350 DEG. The DF anti-kickback ring isn't fitted. It retrofits to any Ratchet DEG hub, and we sell DT's DEG DF upgrade kit if you want it later.
Which set
The FR 541 pair is the lighter set and the one for enduro: 30mm inside and 605g a rim in 29". The mixed set keeps the FR 541 on the front and puts an FR 571 on the rear. The FR 571 is DT's bike park and DH rim: the same 30mm inner width, but 23mm deep and 695g. The rear wheel takes the harder hits, so that's where the heavier rim goes. DT Swiss rates both rims ASTM 5 with a 140kg maximum system weight. Our DT Swiss MTB rim comparison covers the difference in more detail.
Will it fit
Check three things on your bike before you order:
- Boost spacing: 15×110 front, 12×148 rear.
- 6-bolt rotor mounts.
- 29" wheels.
Pick the freehub that matches your cassette. Micro Spline takes Shimano 12-speed MTB cassettes, and XD takes SRAM cassettes that start at 10 teeth. Neither takes an HG cassette. Valves aren't included, so add DT Swiss 50mm tubeless valves when you order. For a full-power eMTB, DT Swiss points riders to its Hybrid hubs, so look at our 350 Hybrid builds instead.
