SUNringlé Duroc 30 J-Unit Novatec hand-built kids wheelset, 24in

A proper hand-built wheelset for a 24in kids' mountain bike: SUNringlé's junior Duroc 30 J-Unit rims laced 32-spoke to Novatec hubs with sealed bearings, built by hand in our Marrickville workshop. The front hub converts between quick release and thru-axle and the rear runs the 135 mm quick release most kids' bikes use, so the set fits the bike now and moves across to the next one.

Before you order: what your bike decides

• Wheel size: 24in. Read it off the tyre sidewall.
• Front axle: 100 mm quick release or 15 x 100 mm thru-axle; the hub converts. Tell us which in the order notes.
• Rear axle: 135 mm quick release, the standard on most 20in and 24in kids' bikes. A 12 x 142 mm thru-axle frame needs a different rear hub: ask us before you order.
• Cassette: Shimano HG freehub (8- to 11-speed cassettes). Not for SRAM XD or Shimano Micro Spline.
• Brakes: 6-bolt disc rotors front and rear; disc brakes only.

• SUNringlé Duroc 30 J-Unit 24in rims x 2: 30 mm wide, 26 mm internal, 32H, pinned and sleeved, SUNringlé Tubeless Ready, about 400 g each, ERD 492 mm
• Novatec 3-in-1 front hub: 100 mm quick release or 15 x 100 mm thru-axle, 6-bolt, 32H, sealed bearings
• Novatec Lightweight rear hub: 135 mm quick release, 6-bolt, 32H, Shimano HG (8- to 11-speed), sealed bearings, the same red Novatec decal as the front
• 64 DT Swiss Competition black J-bend spokes (32 front, 32 rear), cut to length, and a DT brass nipple pack

Options: tubeless valves (50 mm, up to 2).

Why we picked these hubs

A wheelset often outlasts the bike. Novatec's 3-in-1 front takes a quick release fork now and a thru-axle fork later, the rear matches it decal for decal, and both run sealed cartridge bearings that shrug off the wash bay, at a price that suits a growing rider.

How we build it

Every wheel is laced by hand in Marrickville with DT Swiss Competition double-butted spokes (2.0/1.8/2.0 mm) and DT brass nipples, brought up to even tension, stress-relieved and trued, then checked again before it is packed. Each wheelset is built to order. Our Pro wheel build and tape are added to your cart automatically as two free lines. The build carries our workmanship guarantee; each maker's warranty on its parts is on the Warranty tab.

The rims are tubeless-ready: add our 50 mm tubeless valves below and sealant for a lighter, lower-pressure set-up.

Sold separately (shown with this kit): tubeless sealant, 160 mm 6-bolt rotors, a cassette and tyres to suit.
