What it is
This is a replacement cage assembly, not a complete derailleur. The cage and its pulleys are the wear-and-impact items on a mountain bike rear derailleur, so SRAM offers them as a serviceable kit. Fitting a fresh cage assembly renews chain guidance and tension, eliminating the sloppy shifting, chain rub and play that come from a bent or worn cage.
Short cage explained
The short (SS) cage is the most compact of the X9 Type 2 options, suited to 1x drivetrains and smaller-range 2x cassettes where chain wrap demands are lower. Shorter cages sit tighter to the cassette for snappier shifts and better ground clearance on technical trails.
Compatibility and fit
Designed for 10-speed SRAM X9 Type 2 and Type 2.1 rear derailleurs (RD-X9 Type 2 family) that originally used a short cage. Match the cage length to your existing derailleur and intended cassette range. If you are unsure which cage length your derailleur was supplied with, check your derailleur model code or contact us before ordering.
SRAM components are covered by SRAM's standard manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the period specified by SRAM for this product, from the original date of purchase.
