Shimano XTR PD-M9100 SPD Pedals — Short Axle (52mm)
IPDM9100S1
SKU code: SHM-IPDM9100S1
Sold Out
The Shimano XTR PD-M9100 is Shimano's flagship cross-country race pedal, designed for riders who demand the lightest, most efficient clipless platform on the trail. The short-axle S1 variant uses a 52mm spindle — 3mm narrower than standard — to reduce Q-factor and better match the stance width of Shimano SPD-SL road pedals, making it an ideal choice for XC racers running Boost drivetrains or road-to-trail riders who prefer a narrower foot position.
Highlights
- Cold-forged aluminium body: stronger and lighter than die-cast alternatives, delivering a race-ready weight of 314g per pair.
- Short 52mm axle (S1): reduces Q-factor by 3mm per side, narrowing stance width and improving power transfer efficiency for XC racing.
- Wider edge-to-edge contact area: the expanded cleat interface spreads load across more of the shoe sole, improving power transfer and reducing hot spots.
- Mud-shedding cylindrical profile: the conical machining around the binding zone sheds mud and debris for consistent, reliable clip-in and release in all conditions.
- Chromoly steel axle: high-strength, polished spindle runs through widely spaced sealed bearings for smooth rotation and long service life.
- Dual-sided entry: clip in from either side quickly, essential for race starts and technical terrain.
- Adjustable release tension: fine-tune entry and release force with a 3mm hex key to suit rider preference and conditions.
Cleat Compatibility & Float
Supplied with Shimano SM-SH51 cleats, which provide 4° of float and a 13° release angle — optimised for XC racing where precise, efficient pedalling and reliable release are paramount. The optional SM-SH56 multi-directional release cleats are sold separately and suit riders who prefer a more forgiving exit. The recessed cleat design allows normal walking off the bike.
Compatibility & Fit
Standard 9/16" × 20 TPI axle threading fits all standard road and mountain bike cranks. The 52mm short axle is specifically suited to XC racers on Boost drivetrains or those transitioning from road riding who prefer a narrower Q-factor. Installation requires an 8mm hex key inserted from the inboard crank face — there are no external wrench flats on the axle body.
