Design & Construction
The PD-M9220 body is extruded, machined, and anodised aluminium, delivering XTR-grade strength at a weight the competition respects. Dual angular contact bearings with a metal retainer provide smooth, reliable axle rotation, while upgraded seals extend service intervals significantly. The pedal profile sits at 18mm, giving a natural, connected feel underfoot without sacrificing ground clearance on modern long-travel geometries. Mounting is via a standard 8mm hex (Allen) wrench.
Compatibility & Fit
The PD-M9220 ships with the new Shimano CL-MT001 SPD cleats and is also compatible with standard Shimano SH-51 (single-release) and SH-56 (multi-release) SPD cleats — making them a straightforward upgrade for any rider already on SPD shoes. The cleats provide 4 degrees of float for natural knee tracking. These pedals are suited to any 9/16" crank and are compatible with all two-bolt SPD cycling shoes.
