The result is excellent modulation across the full lever stroke — precise speed scrubbing early, maximum stopping power when you need it. The BR-R8170 caliper has been redesigned with 10% greater pad spacing to reduce noise while maintaining a flatter, more compact profile.

Maintenance & Serviceability

The BR-R8170 caliper uses Shimano's One-Way Bleeding system, which separates the bleed nipple and opening screw for trouble-free fluid maintenance. The Easy Hose Joint System (J-Kit) makes hose installation and replacement straightforward, and the L03A Resin Ice-Tech pads are a direct-replacement consumable available separately.

Compatibility & Fit

Designed for Shimano Ultegra R8100 Di2 12-speed groupsets. The BR-R8170 caliper uses flat mount fixing and is supplied pre-configured for the front wheel. Compatible with Shimano mineral oil only — do not use DOT fluid. Pairs with SM-BH90 series brake hose. In Australian setup, this right-hand lever controls the front brake.
