STEPS Integration & Smart Shifting

The RD-M8150-11 connects to the STEPS system via a single EW-SD300 E-TUBE cable, drawing power directly from the e-bike battery and communicating with the motor and other STEPS components. Auto Shift uses a sophisticated algorithm to select the ideal gear based on real-time speed and cadence, while still allowing the rider to override manually at any point. Free Shift allows gear pre-selection while the chain is unloaded — into a switchback or up a steep climb — so the transmission is always primed for the next pedal stroke. All shifting behaviour is fully customisable through the E-TUBE PROJECT app.

LinkGlide Durability

LinkGlide is Shimano's durability-focused drivetrain standard, engineered to handle the extra torque and sustained load that e-bike motors place on chains and sprockets. The RD-M8150-11 is designed exclusively for LinkGlide cassettes, which feature a unique tooth profile and reinforced side plates for extended service life under motor-assisted conditions. This derailleur is not compatible with standard HyperGlide or HyperGlide+ cassettes.

Compatibility & Fit

The RD-M8150-11 is compatible with Shimano STEPS EP801 and EP6 motor systems only — it will not function on non-motorised bicycles. It requires 11-speed LinkGlide cassettes (CS-LG700-11, CS-LG600-11, or CS-LG400-11, 11–50T) and a compatible 11-speed chain (CN-LG500, CN-HG901-11, CN-HG701-11, or CN-HG601-11). Compatible Di2 switches include SW-M8150-R, SW-M8150-IR, SW-EM800-L, and SW-EN600-R. Connects to the STEPS system via one EW-SD300 E-TUBE port.
