Design & Construction

The WH-MT601 uses Shimano's double-butted J-bend spoke lacing, striking a practical balance between weight savings and long-term strength. The aluminium rim is tubeless-compatible out of the box, and the 28.8mm inner width pairs well with contemporary wide-profile trail tyres to improve cornering traction and shock absorption. The Micro Spline freehub body is machined from lightweight aluminium, reducing rotational mass at the hub where it matters most for acceleration.

Centerlock Braking

Shimano's Centerlock system uses a splined interface and a standard lock ring to secure the rotor — the same tooling used for cassettes. Installation is faster and more consistent than six-bolt rotors, and the positive engagement of the spline interface maintains rotor alignment and improves braking feel across all conditions. Compatible with all Shimano Centerlock disc rotors.

Compatibility & Fit

This wheel is compatible with 12-speed Shimano Micro Spline cassettes (e.g. Deore CS-M6100, SLX, XT). Axle standard is 142x12mm thru-axle, suitable for standard MTB rear spacing (non-Boost). Brake rotor mount is Centerlock — an adapter (sold separately) is required for six-bolt rotors. Tyre size recommendation: 27.5" (650B) tubeless or tubeless-ready tyres, 2.1–2.6" width recommended for optimal rim width match. Not compatible with 11-speed or older HG freehub cassettes.
