Shifting & Braking System

The ST-R7020 integrates 11-speed Shimano road shifting with hydraulic disc brake actuation. The shift internals use technology borrowed from Shimano's MTB lineage, resulting in positive, low-effort lever action. Multiple-shift capability (up to two rear shifts from the main lever) further smooths gear selection on climbs and descents. The hydraulic circuit uses Shimano mineral oil — an earth-friendly fluid that doesn't absorb moisture, helping maintain consistent brake feel over time. The pre-filled hose kit (SM-BH90-JK-SSR) is included for a cleaner build.

Ergonomics & Control

Shimano redesigned the lever body for the R7000 generation with a slimmer silhouette and revised lever blade angle that suits a broader range of hand sizes. The clamp band diameter of 23.8–24.2 mm fits standard road drop bars. Reach adjustment of up to 15 mm means riders can position the lever blade closer to the bar for more confident modulation without over-reaching.

Compatibility & Fit

This is the right-hand lever, controlling the rear brake and rear derailleur (Australian standard). Compatible with Shimano 105 R7000 and Ultegra R8000 11-speed road groupsets. Pairs with the BR-R7070 flat mount hydraulic caliper (recommended) and 140 mm or 160 mm SM-RT70 rotors (sold separately). Clamp band suits 23.8–24.2 mm handlebar diameter.
