Caffélatex Tubeless Tape replaces standard rim tape or a rim strip and makes the rim air-tight by sealing the spoke holes. It's made from polyester rather than the PVC used in multi-purpose tapes, so it stays thin, light and resistant to damage and pressure.

A better tape, not a general-purpose one

The special adhesive doesn't have the instant tack of the natural rubber glues used on cheaper tapes. Instead it develops a stronger bond over time and copes far better with changes in temperature and humidity, and with age. The tape is flexible but only marginally stretchable, which Effetto Mariposa sees as a plus: a stretched tape tends to creep back to its original size and break its bond.

Effetto Mariposa's fitting tips

Clean the rim channel with a degreaser and a clean cloth, then wipe away any dried residue. Start 2cm before the valve hole and keep the tape tensioned, sticking it to the centre of the channel first. Use one layer for off-road (up to 4 bar) and two for road (up to 8 bar), finishing 2cm past the valve. Press the tape down onto the channel sides with a clean cloth, then make a round valve hole with a sharp spike or screwdriver rather than an X cut with a knife.

Compatibility & fit

Choose the width by your rim's internal width (see the table below). Use one layer for off-road pressures up to 4 bar and two layers for road pressures up to 8 bar. Fitting and set-up are a separate Tune Cycles workshop service and are not included.
