DropSet 5 is built to the bearing ream depth Specialized specifies for its integrated head tubes. Every Chris King integrated headset uses the patented GripLock bearing cap (US Patent 8662517), which preloads the headset independently of clamping the steerer. That means preload doesn't drop over time the way it can on headsets where the bearings sit loose in the frame, so steering stays smooth, creak-free and can be torqued to a fixed spec. Chris King's bearings are made in-house, with surgical-grade steel races machined simultaneously so they're perfectly matched; they burnish smoother with age and are fully serviceable for years of demanding riding.
