Profile Design calls the GMR 38 a great all-rounder: the 38 mm rim gives an aero boost over a standard alloy wheelset without adding so much side area that the wind pushes you around, and the shallower rim is lighter for hilly terrain. It's the pick for everyday riding, especially where it's often windy.

Rims and tyres

The GMR 38 is optimised for wide tyres at lower pressure, for low rolling resistance and compliance, and its 19 mm internal width suits rough roads. Profile Design lists tyre widths of 28–38 mm (700c) and a maximum tyre pressure of 70–100 psi; also follow the limit on the tyre sidewall. Tubeless valve stems and tubeless rim strips are included.

Hubs and build

Proprietary precision-machined 6061-T6 alloy hubs with an extra-stiff shell run sealed cartridge bearings (6901 front, 6802 rear). The front has 20 spokes and the rear 24, all Sapim CX-Ray straight-pull bladed spokes with 7075 alloy Polyax double square external nipples. Spare spokes (two of each length), eight nipples and eight nipple washers come in the box.

Compatibility & fit

Front 12 x 100 mm and rear 12 x 142 mm thru-axle, Centre Lock rotors. The freehub takes Shimano/SRAM 9, 10 and 11-speed cassettes; a 10-speed cassette spacer is included because the wheels are designed around 11-speed cassettes. For 12-speed SRAM XDR, fit Profile Design's aftermarket XDR freehub body (sold separately). Maximum recommended rider weight is 220 lb (about 100 kg).
