The Protocol RCG-3 takes what riders love about fast XC race tyres and optimises it for modern gravel. It's SILCA's pick for harsh, unpredictable Category 3 gravel courses, adding grip and puncture protection without giving up speed.

Protection without the drag

Built around SILCA's supple casing, the RCG-3 integrates an under-tread puncture breaker chosen for its impact resistance. SILCA designed the layup to minimise hysteretic losses, so the tyre protects against flats while keeping rolling efficiency and traction. In SILCA's lab testing it returned 24.7kg of puncture resistance, ahead of the Continental Dubnital (22.3kg) and Schwalbe Thunder Burt (19.9kg).

Tread that keeps you on the rubber

Centre knobs increase in size and height as the pattern moves outwards, building buoyancy and contact patch through the corner so you roll on the rubber rather than squirming on the casing. SILCA's online tyre pressure calculator includes a casing option for this Race Casing.

Compatibility & fit

The 45mm, 50mm and 55mm options fit 700c (622mm) wheels. The 32 x 2.4" option is a 32-inch tyre (ETRTO 61-686) and only fits 32-inch wheels in a frame with 32-inch clearance. Widths are measured by SILCA on a 25mm rim after 24 hours. Tubeless set-up is a separate Tune Cycles workshop service and is not included.
