Shimano's carbon laminate rim technology bonds a carbon outer layer to an aluminium structure, producing a rim that is lighter and stiffer than an all-aluminium equivalent while retaining a predictable, heat-stable alloy braking track. At 20.8mm external / 15mm internal rim width, the profile suits modern road and gravel tyre widths from 25mm upward.

OptBal Spoke Lacing

Shimano's OptBal (Optimum Balance) lacing places twice as many spokes on the drive side (14) as the non-drive side (7) of the rear wheel. This counteracts the natural asymmetry introduced by the cassette and hub flange geometry, producing more equal spoke tension across the wheel, better lateral stiffness and longer-lasting true. Combined with 21 straightpull aero bladed spokes, the result is a rear wheel that transfers power efficiently without flex or fatigue.

Compatibility & Fit

Designed for rim brake road bikes with a standard 130mm quick release rear axle. The freehub body accepts Shimano HG cassettes in 10-speed or 11-speed configurations. Tubeless-compatible — a tubeless-specific tyre and sealant are required to run tubeless; standard clincher tyres can also be fitted with a tube.
