Electronic Shifting & Ergonomics

The ST-R8050 levers use Shimano's wired Di2 electronic shifting system, eliminating cable stretch and the need for mechanical derailleur adjustment. The redesigned shift button layout features a clearer separation between the two buttons, reducing the chance of mis-shifts and making operation confident and intuitive — even when wearing winter gloves. The reach-adjustable lever blade lets you fine-tune the reach to suit your hand size and riding position.

E-Tube Programmability

Using Shimano's E-Tube Project software, the ST-R8050 levers can be configured for multi-shift (shifting multiple gears in a single press), synchronised shifting, and fully custom button assignments. The discreet programmable button on top of each hood adds a further layer of customisation — commonly used to control cycling computer page changes or toggle between shift modes. Each lever features two SD50 E-Tube connection ports and one dedicated satellite/sprint shifter port.

Compatibility & Fit

The Shimano ST-R8050 is designed for use with the Shimano Ultegra R8050 Di2 electronic groupset on road bikes with drop handlebars and cable-actuated rim brakes. Compatible with 2x11-speed drivetrains. Wired Di2 connectivity requires an Ultegra Di2 junction box (SM-EW90 or compatible) and battery (BT-DN110 or compatible), sold separately. Not compatible with hydraulic disc brake systems (see ST-R8070 for disc brake variant).
