Carbon Rim Construction

The WH-RX880 rim is moulded from carbon fibre for an optimal balance of stiffness and vibration damping. At 32mm deep and 30.7mm wide externally, it cuts through air efficiently without becoming unmanageable in variable conditions. The 25mm internal width pairs ideally with modern wide-section gravel tyres, providing a stable tyre profile and improved rolling efficiency. Factory rim tape and valve core are included, so the wheel is ready for a tubeless setup straight out of the box.

DIRECT ENGAGEMENT Hub Technology

Shimano's DIRECT ENGAGEMENT ratchet mechanism — developed for the flagship Dura-Ace wheelset — is carried over to the GRX WH-RX880. The system reduces rotational play in the freehub body, translating pedal input into forward motion with greater immediacy. Contact seals protect the hub internals and freehub bearings from mud, grit, and moisture, keeping the wheel performing across long gravel days and adverse conditions.

Compatibility & Fit

This Micro Spline variant is designed specifically for 12-speed Shimano MTB cassettes (compatible cassette tooth ranges: 9-45T, 10-45T, 10-51T). It is not compatible with HG 10-speed or 11-speed road cassettes, nor with HG L2 road cassettes — confirm your drivetrain before ordering. Fits frames with a 12x142mm rear thru-axle. Disc brake only; not compatible with rim brake frames. Centre Lock rotor interface requires a compatible lockring tool and rotor (sold separately). Minimum recommended rotor size: 140mm.
