Shimano DXR PD-MX70 BMX SPD Pedals
EPDMX70
SKU code: SHM-EPDMX70
In Stock
The Shimano DXR PD-MX70 is Shimano's first pedal built specifically for the demands of BMX racing. Purpose-engineered to handle the explosive, high-force pedalling of BMX, it combines a reinforced high-retention SPD binding with a wide, low-profile platform — giving racers the security and stability they need from the start gate to the finish line.
Highlights
- High-retention binding: Specially reinforced mechanism prevents unintended unclipping under the extreme upward pedalling forces common in BMX racing.
- Narrow 9-degree release angle: Dramatically reduced from standard SPD pedals for a more locked-in, stable feel with deliberate and predictable release.
- 2-degree free float: Minimal float keeps feet in a consistent, powerful position while still allowing slight natural movement to reduce knee strain.
- Wide, low platform: Broad pedal-to-shoe contact area maximises support and grip; lower stack height improves pedalling efficiency and clearance.
- Integrated cage: Surrounds and protects the binding mechanism, improves shoe contact when unclipped, and gives added control on technical terrain.
- Dual-sided entry: Clip in from either side for fast engagement, critical in a race start.
- Adjustable tension: Entry and release tension can be tuned to suit rider preference and experience level.
- SM-SH51 SPD cleats included.
DXR BMX Lineage
The PD-MX70 is part of Shimano's DXR component group — a dedicated BMX racing system developed in collaboration with elite racers and tested from club-level gates to Olympic tracks. Every element of the DXR line is optimised for the specific biomechanics and intensity of BMX, and the PD-MX70 pedal reflects that focused engineering philosophy.
Construction
The pedal body is constructed from aluminium with a chromoly spindle, balancing light weight with the durability needed to survive the impacts and loads of BMX riding. Sealed bearings keep the mechanism running smoothly and reliably over time.
Compatibility & Fit
The PD-MX70 uses a standard 9/16" spindle thread, compatible with the vast majority of BMX and mountain bike cranks. It is a Shimano SPD clipless system and pairs with SM-SH51 single-release SPD cleats (included). Compatible with any SPD-compatible cycling shoe, including BMX-specific and mountain bike shoes.
