Construction & Technology

Shimano's WH-R9100-C40-CL uses a hybrid construction that bonds a carbon laminate layer to an alloy rim body. This approach keeps the rim stiff and aerodynamic while retaining a machined alloy brake track — critical for heat management on long descents and consistent pad bite in all weather. The 0.6mm wall thickness of the alloy body is reinforced by the carbon layer, achieving stiffness and low weight without compromising durability.

Hub & Spokes

The front hub is built to Dura-Ace R9100 standard, using cup-and-cone bearings with Shimano's refined finishing that allows precise bearing pre-load adjustment over the life of the wheel. Sixteen straight-pull bladed stainless steel spokes are laced radially, minimising aerodynamic drag while keeping the spoke count low for weight savings. Alloy nipples complete the build.
