Power Measurement Technology

Shimano's dual-sided power system places 24 strain gauges across both crank arms, capturing independent left and right leg output. Data updates at 12 points per full rotation (every 30°) on each arm, giving detailed pedalling insights beyond simple wattage. The Force Vector firmware upgrade unlocks direction-of-force data, helping riders identify and correct inefficiencies in their pedal stroke. Active temperature compensation automatically adjusts readings as conditions change, keeping accuracy consistent from cold morning warm-ups to mid-race efforts.

Construction & Integration

HOLLOWTECH II hollow-formed aluminium crank arms provide the rigidity needed for accurate force measurement without unnecessary weight penalty. The power meter electronics are fully integrated and sealed inside the crank arms — waterproof and protected from the elements. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery (charged via the EW-EC300 port) delivers 300+ hours per charge, and both ANT+ and Bluetooth LE transmission allow pairing with virtually any modern cycling computer or smartwatch. Firmware updates are managed through Shimano's E-TUBE PROJECT app.

Compatibility & Fit

The FC-R9200-P crank arms are designed for 2x12-speed road drivetrains using a 110 mm asymmetric 4-bolt BCD. Available in 160 mm, 165 mm, 167.5 mm, 170 mm, 172.5 mm, and 175 mm lengths. The spindle interfaces with 24 mm Shimano bottom brackets (threaded BB-R9100 or press-fit SM-BB92-41B). Chainline is 44.5 mm with a 148 mm Q-factor. Chainrings are not included — compatible Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra 12-speed 110 BCD chainrings are sold separately. Pair with front derailleurs FD-R9250 or FD-R8150.
