HOLLOWTECH II Technology

Shimano's HOLLOWTECH II system integrates the spindle axle into the right crank arm, creating a one-piece crank-and-axle unit that installs from the non-drive side. The 24mm hardened-steel spindle passes through the bottom bracket shell and is secured with a pinch bolt on the left crank arm, eliminating play and maximising stiffness at the pedalling interface. The result is more direct power transfer from every pedal stroke to the drivetrain.

Hollowglide Chainrings

The outer Hollowglide chainring uses a hollow internal structure — the same principle applied to high-quality frame tubing — to achieve stiffness equivalent to heavier solid rings at reduced weight. This design enables crisp engagement with the chain during front shifts and supports the exacting tolerances demanded by 11-speed drivetrains. The 36T inner ring pairs with Shimano's 11-speed chain profile for reliable double-chainring operation in all conditions.

The 110mm asymmetric BCD accepts FC-9000 and Dura-Ace 9000-series replacement chainrings.
