Rim & Spoke Construction

The WH-M8120 uses a lightweight aluminium rim with a 30mm internal width and 34.7mm external width — optimised for trail and enduro tyre profiles. At 19.8mm rim profile height, the rim strikes a balance between stiffness and compliance. The rim is offset in spoke lacing to equalise drive-side and non-drive-side tension across the 28 double-butted J-bend spokes, reducing fatigue and improving long-term durability under aggressive trail use.

Hub Technology

The rear hub runs on labyrinth seals engineered to repel mud, grit, and water for reliable, smooth pedalling across varied conditions. The Micro Spline freehub body accommodates Shimano's 12-speed MTB cassettes — including the 10-tooth smallest cog — enabling a tighter gear range and a lower overall system weight compared to HG-standard freehubs. The 148x12mm Boost thru-axle interface maximises lateral stiffness and improves power transfer from pedal stroke to trail.

Compatibility & Fit

This wheel is designed for 29" mountain bikes with a 148x12mm Boost rear dropout. It requires a Centerlock disc brake rotor (sold separately) and is compatible with Shimano 12-speed MTB drivetrains using Micro Spline cassettes. Recommended tyre width: 2.25–2.6" (57–66mm). The wheel is supplied without a thru-axle — check your frame specification. Not compatible with HG or XD driver cassettes without a freehub body swap.
