LinkGlide Technology

Shimano's LinkGlide system uses a redesigned chain and cassette tooth profile that shifts under load with far less wear than standard HyperGlide. The rounded tooth engagement means each shift is smooth and decisive even when pedalling hard — a critical advantage for e-bike riders where chain tension is higher and component wear accelerates. The RD-M8130-SGS is purpose-built for this system and is not compatible with standard HyperGlide shifters due to a different cable pull ratio.

Construction

The outer and inner cage plates are aluminium, keeping weight reasonable while maintaining the rigidity needed to handle wide cassette ranges. Cold-forged construction and quality materials throughout reflect the XT-tier standard Shimano is known for at this level of the MTB drivetrain range.

Compatibility & Fit

This derailleur is compatible with LinkGlide 11-speed drivetrains only. It accepts a maximum sprocket of 50T (minimum 11T) with a total capacity of 39T. Compatible cassettes include the CS-LG700-11, CS-LG600-11, and CS-LG400-11. The recommended chain is the Shimano CN-LG500 LinkGlide 11-speed chain (standard HG-X 11-speed chains are also accepted). Compatible LinkGlide shifters include the SL-M8130-R11, SL-M8130-IR11, SL-U8000-11R, and SL-U6000-11R. This derailleur is also compatible with Shimano EP8 (EP800/EP801) and EP6 e-bike drive units for MTB and touring applications. Mount type is conventional direct-pull cable attachment.
