STEPS Integration & Smart Shifting

The RD-M8150-11 is part of Shimano's EP8/EP801 STEPS ecosystem, drawing power via a single EW-SD300 E-TUBE cable connection. The electronic drivetrain communicates with the motor and other STEPS components, enabling Auto Shift — automatic gear selection based on speed, cadence, and motor output. Free Shift allows the rider to queue up a gear change while the chain is unloaded, ensuring you're always in the right gear when power is applied. Settings are fully customisable through the E-TUBE PROJECT app.

LinkGlide Durability

LinkGlide is Shimano's durability-focused drivetrain standard, engineered to withstand the extra stress that e-bike torque places on chains and sprockets. The RD-M8150-11 is designed exclusively for LinkGlide cassettes and compatible chains, which feature a unique tooth profile and strengthened side plates for extended service life under motor-assisted loads. This derailleur is not compatible with standard HyperGlide+ or non-LinkGlide cassettes.

Compatibility & Fit

The RD-M8150-11 is compatible with Shimano STEPS EP801 and EP6 motor systems only — it will not function on non-motorised bicycles. It requires 11-speed LinkGlide cassettes (CS-LG700-11, CS-LG600-11, or CS-LG400-11, 11–50T) and LinkGlide or compatible 11-speed chains (CN-LG500, CN-HG901-11, CN-HG701-11, CN-HG601-11). Compatible shifters include SW-M8150-R, SW-M8150-IR, SW-EM800-L, and SW-EN600-R. Connects to the STEPS system via EW-SD300 E-TUBE cable (1 port).
