The Shimano Deore XT BR-M8100 is a XC-race-tuned hydraulic disc brake built for riders who demand reliable, lightweight stopping power on the trail. Paired with the BL-M8100 right-hand I-SPEC EV lever, this front brake set delivers precise modulation and quick-release power without excess weight — exactly what cross-country and marathon MTB riders need.

Highlights

  • SERVOWAVE Technology: Initial pad travel is fast so the lever needs minimal movement to contact the rotor, then braking force multiplies rapidly for confident, controllable stopping power.
  • 2-Piston Caliper (BR-M8100): Lightweight post mount caliper tuned for XC and trail — efficient power delivery without the bulk of 4-piston designs.
  • ICE Technologies Pad Compatibility: Supplied with J04C-MF finned metal pads; the fin draws heat away from the pad and caliper for consistent performance on long, steep descents.
  • One-Way Bleeding: Shimano's one-way bleed system makes maintenance fast and clean — prevents air entering the system during the process.
  • I-SPEC EV Compatible Lever: The BL-M8100 right lever accepts I-SPEC EV shifters (SL-M8100-I) mounted directly to the brake lever for a clean, compact cockpit setup.
  • Toolless Reach Adjust: Dial in the lever position to suit your hand size and riding style without reaching for any tools.
  • Stiffer Lever Body: The M8100-generation lever is 10% stiffer than its predecessor under high-temperature conditions, improving feel and feedback.
  • Pre-Bled System: Arrives ready to install with SM-BH90-SBM hose and mineral oil — no workshop bleed required out of the box.

Caliper & Lever Detail

The BR-M8100 caliper uses a 2-piston design refined for XC racing — light enough to keep your build competitive, powerful enough for technical descents. The banjo-style hose connection (SM-BH90-SBM) is included. Pad compatibility covers both resin and metal options: G05A-RX resin (without fin), G04S-MX metal (without fin), J05A-RF resin (with fin), and J04C-MF metal (with fin). The BL-M8100 lever includes a free-stroke adjust alongside reach adjust, giving you further control over engagement feel. Shimano mineral oil is the specified fluid — do not substitute DOT fluid.

Compatibility & Fit

This is a front brake set with a right-hand lever (Australian convention: right lever = front brake). The caliper mounts to a standard Post Mount fork brake tab. Compatible with 140mm, 160mm, 180mm, 203mm, and 220mm rotors (rotor not included — sold separately). The BL-M8100 lever clamps to 22.2mm handlebars and supports I-SPEC EV integrated shifter mounting. Compatible with the full Shimano Deore XT M8100 groupset.

Shimano offers a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. For warranty support, return the item to Tune Cycles.
