Black VP PP pedals with a 9/16" axle, supplied with toe clips and straps. Toe clips and straps hold your foot in place on the pedal and let you pull up as well as push, without needing cycling-specific shoes.

The PP (polypropylene) body is light and won't rust, and it's cheap to replace if it's damaged in a crash.

These have a 9/16" axle thread, the standard for three-piece cranks, which almost every adult bike and most better kids' and BMX bikes use. They won't fit a one-piece crank, which takes 1/2" pedals, unless you add a thread adaptor.

To fit, grease the pedal threads, start each pedal by hand so it doesn't cross-thread, then tighten it with a pedal spanner or the hex key it takes. The left pedal has a reverse thread, so it tightens anticlockwise.
