VP MTB-style pedals with a one-piece PP body and a 1/2" thread. Toe clips can be attached. MTB-style flat pedals give a wider platform than basic pedals and work with any shoe, so they suit trail riding, commuting and general use.

The PP (polypropylene) body is light and won't rust, and it's cheap to replace if it's damaged in a crash.

These have a 1/2" axle thread. That size fits one-piece cranks, found on many kids' bikes, older BMX bikes, department-store bikes and some exercise bikes. It won't fit a three-piece crank, which takes 9/16". If you're not sure which you have, look at the crank: a one-piece crank is a single steel piece running through the frame, while a three-piece crank has separate arms fixed to a bottom bracket axle.

To fit, grease the pedal threads, start each pedal by hand so it doesn't cross-thread, then tighten it with a pedal spanner or the hex key it takes. The left pedal has a reverse thread, so it tightens anticlockwise.
