Small black Wellgo pedals for 12 inch kids' bikes: one-piece PP body, 1/2" boron axle, 80 x 55 mm platform. Kids' pedals are small and light to suit short legs and small cranks, and a plain flat platform is the easiest thing for a young rider to learn on.

The PP (polypropylene) body is light and won't rust, and it's cheap to replace if it's damaged in a crash.

These have a 1/2" axle thread. That size fits one-piece cranks, found on many kids' bikes, older BMX bikes, department-store bikes and some exercise bikes. It won't fit a three-piece crank, which takes 9/16". If you're not sure which you have, look at the crank: a one-piece crank is a single steel piece running through the frame, while a three-piece crank has separate arms fixed to a bottom bracket axle.

To fit, grease the pedal threads, start each pedal by hand so it doesn't cross-thread, then tighten it with a pedal spanner or the hex key it takes. The left pedal has a reverse thread, so it tightens anticlockwise.
