Deep carbon rims can turn a loose valve into a constant tick. Shelter Wheel Kit washers fit snugly over the valve stem and glue at its base, silencing it almost invisibly, and the same washers let you balance a wheel.

Balancing a wheel

With the tyre (and disc) fitted and little or no sealant inside, spin the wheel in a truing stand and let it settle. The lowest point is the heaviest; stick a washer on the rim directly opposite and repeat. The wheel is balanced when it stops without rocking back and forth. Effetto Mariposa puts typical imbalance at 4 to 12g.

Placement

Washers can be stacked or placed side by side, on top of the rim or on its side depending on the profile. Cut one on one side to fit it around a spoke near the light spot.

Compatibility & fit

Fits over standard valve stems at the rim bed. For balancing tubeless wheels, add sealant after balancing, as liquid sealant interferes with static balancing. Wheel balancing is available as a separate Tune Cycles workshop service, not included.
