The DT Swiss 240 Hybrid rear hub is the 240 rebuilt for eMTB. It uses DT's reinforced Ratchet EXP OS freehub, a hardened steel Shimano Micro Spline body and larger flanges for 2.34 mm spokes, so it keeps engaging cleanly under motor and rider torque. Centre Lock rotor mount.

Ratchet EXP OS: EXP, reinforced for eMTB

DT Swiss built the Ratchet EXP OS from its Ratchet EXP system and adapted it for eMTB use. The ratchet has 30 teeth (12° between engagement points), the drive-side bearing is bigger, and the threaded ring that carries drive torque into the hub shell steps up from M30 to M32 — a 6.7% larger thread that spreads the load over more surface. DT calls it the lightest of its Hybrid freehub systems.

A steel body and a stronger shell

The Micro Spline freehub body is hardened steel (DT: Shimano 12SP Steel, SS12), so the cassette doesn't bite into it under motor torque. The hub shell has larger flanges with spoke holes opened up for DT Swiss 2.34 mm spokes, which DT says better resist eMTB acceleration and braking loads. At 296 g in Centre Lock it is lighter than the 350 Hybrid equivalent (321 g).

Compatibility & fit

Fits frames with a 12 × 148 mm Boost rear thru-axle. The freehub body is Shimano Micro Spline, for Shimano Micro Spline cassettes. DT Swiss also makes Shimano HG and SRAM XD conversion bodies for this hub (special order, ask us). It takes Centre Lock rotors. To run 6-bolt rotors on it, add Shimano's SM-RTAD05 adapter (not for 6-bolt rotors that already use an SM-RT86 / RT76 aluminium carrier). Drilled 32H for J-bend spokes; lace it with DT Swiss 2.34 mm spokes such as the Alpine III.
