Synthesis was Crankbrothers' tuned carbon wheel system for enduro riding and racing: instead of building both wheels the same, front and rear-specific rims put compliance up front for grip and steering and stiffness out back for stability. This 29in Boost set carries an HG freehub body.

Compliant front wheel

A lower spoke count, lighter spokes and a lighter rim make the front wheel more compliant, improving handling and maximising grip and control in turns. The wider internal width supports a wider front tyre with more volume and contact patch, and rounds the tyre profile to help it turn.

Stiff rear wheel

More spokes, heavier spokes and a tougher rim let the rear wheel support peak loads and stay stable and tracking at speed. The narrower internal width suits a narrower rear tyre, lowering rolling resistance and sharpening the tyre edge for grip. Crankbrothers says its pre-built Synthesis wheelsets come taped with a valve installed, ready for a tyre and sealant.

Compatibility & fit

A 29in front and rear pair for Boost-spaced enduro and trail bikes, with an HG freehub body for Shimano HG-spline cassettes. This is an earlier Synthesis Enduro Carbon set with Crankbrothers' Synthesis Standard hubs, not the current Ratchet or Industry Nine versions. Add your own cassette, rotors and tyres. Our workshop can fit them, swap the freehub body or replace hub bearings; fitting is a separate workshop service.
