One gear and a back-pedal brake, nothing else to adjust: this 700C / 29er rear wheel uses Sturmey-Archer's S1C coaster hub, the simple setup for a cruiser or beach bike.
- No cables, levers or derailleur: the brake works by pedalling backwards
- Alex MD21 rim, 26 mm wide, double-wall, laced 36H
- Silver spokes, hand-laced, tensioned and trued
- Built to order to a standard spec, not machine-laced
The hub. BPW lists the Sturmey-Archer S1C as: single-speed hub with coaster (back-pedal) brake; no shifter or cable.
Fit. It needs a frame with 119 mm rear spacing and takes a nutted axle. The coaster brake needs its brake arm clamped to the frame's chainstay.
Built to order. Hand-built by our wheel builder and dispatched in about 5 days.

Sturmey-Archer and the rim maker don't publish consumer warranty terms we can quote for this build. The wheel is covered against defects in materials and manufacture. Normal wear, crash or impact damage and misuse are not covered. If you have a problem, return the item to Tune Cycles with your proof of purchase and we'll manage the claim.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
