Solid titanium cranks for your mountain bike. 5DEV machines each arm on a 5-axis CNC from solid Ti-6Al-4V bar stock in San Diego, and backs its titanium cranks with a limited lifetime warranty.

Highlights

  • Ti-6Al-4V arms, 5-axis CNC-machined from solid bar stock
  • 553 g with the Boost spindle (5DEV figure)
  • 168 mm Q-factor with the Boost spindle
  • SRAM 8-bolt direct-mount chainring interface
  • 7075 aluminium crank bolts with self-extracting hardware; 6061 aluminium preloader
  • 165 or 167.5 mm, on a 29 mm (SRAM DUB size) or 30 mm Boost spindle

Machined titanium

The arms are cut from solid Ti-6Al-4V, the titanium alloy 5DEV uses for its MTB crank. They take a SRAM 8-bolt direct-mount ring, and 5DEV's three-piece design means any 5DEV spindle fits: on this crank the SuperBoost+ spindle gives a 177 mm Q-factor and the DH spindle 183 mm, if your frame changes later. Every option here comes on the 130 mm Boost spindle. 5DEV doesn't recommend titanium pedal axles in its titanium cranks; always use anti-seize or grease on the pedal threads.

Options

OptionWhat it means
Crank Length: 165mm or 167.5mmBoth lengths come with either spindle.
Spindle: 29x130mm Boost29 mm spindle, the SRAM DUB size (5DEV: 28.99 mm). Runs in a SRAM DUB bottom bracket.
Spindle: 30x130mm Boost30 mm spindle for 30 mm bottom brackets.

Compatibility & fit

Frame: 5DEV's Boost cranks suit 68 and 73 mm bottom bracket shells, and 5DEV notes that most 73 mm XC and enduro MTB shells use its 130 mm spindle. 5DEV lists the 130 mm Boost spindle for 52 mm and 55 mm chainlines.

Bottom bracket: sold separately. Choose the 29 mm spindle if you run a SRAM DUB bottom bracket, or the 30 mm spindle for a 30 mm bottom bracket (5DEV names Cane Creek, Chris King, EuroBearing and Kogel as examples). A Shimano 24 mm bottom bracket has to be replaced with one or the other.

Chainring: SRAM 8-bolt direct mount. No chainring is listed with the crank.

Setup: 5DEV suggests the standard 3.5 mm SRAM DUB spacer on the drive side, then the preload collar and spacers on the non-drive side to leave a 0.5–1 mm gap. Each arm should sit at least 3–5 mm from the chainstay; if it doesn't, 5DEV recommends its 136 mm spindle.

The Tune Cycles workshop can fit the bottom bracket and crankset for you as a separate workshop service. Threaded shells need the right bottom bracket tool and press-fit shells need a proper bearing press, so it pays to have the shell checked and the bottom bracket fitted correctly first. 5DEV's torque spec for the titanium MTB crank bolts is 40 Nm.

5DEV backs its products with a limited 5-year warranty from the date of manufacture, and its titanium cranks with a limited lifetime warranty, against defects in materials and workmanship. If 5DEV confirms a defect, it replaces the affected part with a comparable model. Talk to us before replacing anything: 5DEV voids the warranty if a part from another maker is fitted in place of the 5DEV component.

This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Keep your proof of purchase.

For warranty support, return the product to Tune Cycles and we'll manage the claim with 5DEV's Australian distributor.
