StripChip takes the worst job out of hot melt waxing. Drop one chip into the molten wax with a new, factory-greased chain and it binds with the grease and turns it into wax, so the chain goes from box to waxed without a solvent bath.

How it works

StripChip activates at 125°C. Drop a chip into the melted wax, submerge the new chain and let it soak for 10 minutes at 125°C, then bring the wax down to 75°C before pulling the chain to cool and dry. For longer chains such as tandems or recumbents, SILCA suggests two to three chips.

Compatibility & fit

For use in a hot melt wax pot. SILCA designed StripChip for Secret Chain Blend; it is likely to work with other waxes but has not been tested with every wax on the market. It cannot be used with the sous vide waxing method, because that method can't reach the 125°C activation temperature. Chain waxing is available as a separate Tune Cycles workshop service.
