Construction

The FC-M9220 crankarms use Shimano's Hollowtech II manufacturing process — hollow-forging the aluminium to create a structure that is stiffer per gram than a solid casting. The spindle is steel and deliberately oversized for the enduro application, resisting the lateral flex and impact forces common in aggressive trail and enduro riding. The crankarms are finished in a black and silver anodised treatment.

12-speed drivetrain. Crank arm length: 165mm (also available in 160mm, 170mm, 175mm). Chainline: 55mm. Q-factor: 176mm. Spindle diameter: 24mm (Hollowtech II interface). Compatible with Shimano threaded (e.g. SM-BB93) and press-fit (e.g. SM-BB94-41A) bottom brackets — sold separately. Chainring sold separately; accepts Shimano SM-CRM96 XTR Direct Mount chainrings in sizes 28–38t (requires 12-speed HG+ chain). Compatible with 141mm and 148mm Boost rear hub spacing.
