D2 Rim Design
Shimano's D2 rim profile was developed in wind-tunnel testing across yaw angles of 0–15°, the range most commonly encountered during road racing. The 60mm depth reduces aerodynamic drag in both headwind and crosswind conditions while increasing lateral stiffness for precise handling at speed. The carbon construction keeps weight low without compromising the rigidity needed to transfer power efficiently.
OPTBAL Spoke System
The rear wheel uses Shimano's OPTBAL (Optimised Balance) lacing pattern — a 2:1 spoke ratio with 16 spokes on the drive side and 8 on the non-drive side. This counteracts the uneven tension caused by cassette offset, evening out spoke load across the wheel, extending spoke life, and producing a noticeably stiffer rear wheel. Straight-pull, bladed aero spokes (2.0–1.6–2.0mm butted) are used throughout.
Hub Technology
Shimano's time-tested cup-and-cone hub bearings with a CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) polished finish deliver smooth rolling and are fully user-serviceable. The freehub body accepts both 11-speed and 12-speed Shimano HG road cassettes, and the Centre Lock rotor interface allows quick, precise disc rotor installation with a standard lockring tool.
Compatibility & Fit
Designed for 700c road and gravel bikes with disc brakes. Front axle: 12×100mm thru-axle. Rear axle: 12×142mm thru-axle. Rotor mount: Centre Lock (IS and 6-bolt adaptors available separately). Recommended tyre width: 25–32mm (tubeless or clincher with inner tube). Compatible with 11-speed and 12-speed Shimano HG cassettes. Not compatible with SRAM XD/XDR or Campagnolo freehub bodies without an adaptor.
Shimano Ultegra wheels are covered by Shimano's manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of original retail purchase. This warranty applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. Normal wear, misuse, crash damage, and improper installation are not covered.
