D2 Rim Technology

Shimano's D2 rim profile was developed to perform across real-world yaw angles (0–15°) rather than only in straight-headwind tunnel conditions. The shape reduces aerodynamic drag while simultaneously improving lateral stiffness and vertical directional stability — giving you confident handling when crosswinds push at the 60mm wall.

Hub & Bearing Construction

The Ultegra R8170 hub body is machined from anodised aluminium with straight-pull spoke flanges that locate the 14-gauge bladed spokes cleanly under tension. Shimano's cup-and-cone bearings (polished and CBN coated) are fully serviceable — unlike sealed cartridge units, worn bearing surfaces can be repacked or replaced to keep the hub rolling smoothly for years.

Compatibility & Fit

Fits any 700c disc-brake road frame or fork with a 12x100mm (E-Thru) front axle. Centre Lock rotor mount — a Centre Lock rotor (or an IS adapter) is required; not supplied. Tyre clearance: 700x25–32mm. Compatible with Shimano 11-speed and 12-speed road groupsets. Sold as a single front wheel.
