Carbon Rim & Aerodynamics
The WH-R8170-C50 rim is built from full carbon and shaped to the same D2 aerodynamic cross-section found on Shimano's top-tier Dura-Ace R9200 wheelset. At 50mm deep with a 28mm external and 21mm internal width, the rim channels are well-matched to today's wider performance road tyres and generate genuine aero benefit without the handling penalties of deeper sections in crosswinds.
Hub & Spoke System
The front hub runs on a cup-and-cone bearing system with CBN-finished cones, polished cups, and labyrinth double-contact seals — a Shimano hallmark that keeps bearings serviceable and running smoothly over thousands of kilometres. Twenty-four straight-pull bladed spokes laced in a conventional 2x pattern link hub to rim, striking an efficient balance of lateral stiffness, compliance, and weight.
Compatibility & Fit
The WH-R8170-C50-TL front wheel fits 700c disc brake frames and forks with a 12x100mm thru-axle. The Centre Lock rotor interface accepts Shimano Centre Lock disc rotors with a standard spline-lock ring. Recommended tyre width is 25–38mm (tubeless or clincher). Supplied with Centre Lock rotor lock ring tool and valve stem. Not compatible with rim brake frames.
