SERVO WAVE Brake Modulation
Shimano's SERVO WAVE variable-ratio lever design expands the effective braking range and provides smooth, progressive pad engagement. The initial lever travel quickly brings pads close to the rotor, then transitions to a firmer, highly modulated feel — giving riders fine control from light scrubbing to full stopping power. Free stroke and reach adjustments allow precise fit to any hand size.
Compatibility & Fit
The ST-R8170-L is the left lever of the Ultegra R8100 Di2 groupset, compatible with 2x12-speed drivetrains. It pairs with BR-R8170 flat-mount disc brake calipers via SM-BH90-JK-SSR or SM-BH90-J-SSR mineral oil hose. The lever is also cross-compatible with Dura-Ace R9200-series Di2 derailleurs (FD-R9250, RD-R9250) and accepts the SW-RS801 satellite shift button. Clamp band diameter: 23.8–24.2 mm. Uses Shimano mineral oil only — do not use DOT fluid.
