Shifting & Ergonomics

The ST-4720 uses a redesigned internal shifting unit that delivers crisp, positive gear changes across the Tiagra 4700-series drivetrain. Reach adjust brings the lever blade closer to the bar, making the system accessible for riders with shorter fingers or smaller hands — the same intuitive Shimano dual-control action refined at higher groupset levels and cascaded into Tiagra.

Hydraulic Braking

The bundled BR-4770 2-piston flat-mount caliper pairs with the integrated hydraulic master cylinder in the ST-4720 lever body. Shimano mineral oil is the brake fluid, offering a stable feel across a wide temperature range. One-Way Bleeding technology simplifies maintenance — a bleed port on the lever body means you can top up fluid quickly without removing the caliper. L03A Ice-Tec resin pads with cooling fins dissipate heat effectively for consistent modulation on longer descents.

Compatibility & Fit

This is the right-hand lever with front BR-4770 caliper. In Australian convention the right lever controls the front brake. Compatible with flat-mount forks accepting 140 mm rotors; a separate adapter is required for 160 mm rotors. Designed for Tiagra 4700, 4703, 4720 and 4725 series components. Hose: SM-BH90, 1000 mm (front). Brake fluid: Shimano mineral oil only — do not use DOT fluid.
