Both faces of the pedal accept the cleat, so there's no need to flip the pedal before clipping in. The adjustable tension setting lets you run a lighter spring while you learn the movement, then firm it up as you ride more aggressively.

Compatibility & fit

The PD-M540 uses Shimano's two-bolt SPD system and ships with SM-SH51 (single-release) cleats. It is compatible with two-bolt SPD mountain bike shoes and accepts SM-SH51 and SM-SH56 (multi-release) cleats. The axle installs with an 8mm Allen key.
