Sealed inside the hub, a roller brake stops the same way in rain and road grime and needs very little attention. The BR-C6001-F is Shimano's Nexus front roller brake for everyday and utility bikes, built to cope with heavier loads.

Why a roller brake

The braking surfaces sit inside the unit, away from water and road dirt, so there is no rim or rotor to wear or contaminate. Servicing uses Shimano's dedicated roller brake grease, which keeps the action smooth.

Lever pairing

Shimano recommends the Nexus BL-C6010 lever for the best performance under heavy load. Roller brakes need a lever that is matched to them, and Shimano warns that the wrong combination can reduce braking force.

Compatibility and fit

Front wheel only, for 26 to 28 inch wheels. It fits front hubs made for Shimano hub roller brakes and will not fit disc brake or standard front hubs. The brake arm is secured to the fork and the unit is held on the hub axle with a fixing nut, so correct setup matters. If you are not sure your hub, fork and lever suit it, ask us and we will check them against your bike.
