The C36's D2 aerodynamic rim profile has been engineered by Shimano to reduce air drag more effectively than conventional aero rim shapes across yaw angles of 0 to 15°, which covers the vast majority of real riding conditions. At 21mm internal width and 28mm external width, the hooked tubeless-ready bead seats tyres from 25–32mm for optimal aerodynamic integration and road compliance. The all-carbon construction keeps rotational weight low — a key factor for accelerations and prolonged climbing efforts.

OPTBAL Spoke System & Hub

Shimano's OPTBAL system places 16 spokes on the drive side against 8 on the non-drive side in a 2:1 lacing ratio. This arrangement equalises spoke tension across both flanges, improving wheel stiffness and longevity under pedalling loads. The Dura-Ace hub features a direct engagement mechanism for increased drive rigidity and fully serviceable cup-and-cone bearings with CBN-coated races for long-term durability and easy field maintenance.
