Synchronized Shift & Button Programming

Because each SW-R9160 shifter has a single button, front derailleur control requires Shimano's Synchronized Shift mode. In Synchro mode, the Di2 system determines the correct front gear automatically — you simply shift up or down on the rear, and the front derailleur adjusts when needed for the ideal chain line. Each button can be freely assigned to upshift or downshift via the E-Tube Project app.

Wired Di2 Connection

The SW-R9160 connects to the Di2 system via a wired SD50 port. Each shifter must be wired directly — these switches do not support wireless (D-FLY) connection. They require the BT-DN300 external battery when used on bikes without an integrated battery system. Firmware update to version 3.3.0 or later is required for 12-speed Di2 compatibility.

Compatibility & Fit

The SW-R9160 is designed for Shimano Di2 electronic groupsets and is compatible with Dura-Ace R9150 Di2 (11-speed) and Dura-Ace R9200/Ultegra R8100 Di2 (12-speed, firmware v3.3.0+). Each shifter features one SD50 Di2 port. Wired connection to the Di2 junction or BT-DN300 battery is required — wireless operation is not supported. Suited for standard TT and triathlon aero bar extensions.
