SHADOW ES Chain Stabilisation

SHIMANO SHADOW ES is a slimmer, stronger evolution of the proven SHADOW RD+ concept. The dual-spring design creates significantly higher chain tension for better wrap and retention, minimising chain bounce and preventing drops on demanding terrain. The wedge-shaped cage profile is designed to deflect trail obstacles rather than catch on them — adding another layer of protection on technical descents and rock gardens.

Auto Shift and Free Shift

Unique to Shimano's E-MTB Di2 systems, Auto Shift uses cadence and speed sensors to automatically select the optimal gear while you pedal, keeping you in the power band without any manual input. Free Shift complements this by enabling gear pre-selection while coasting, so you arrive at the bottom of a descent or end of a flat already in the right gear for the climb ahead. Both functions are configurable through the Shimano E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app via Bluetooth or ANT+.

The RD-M8260 is designed for Shimano 12-speed HYPERGLIDE+ E-MTB drivetrains. It pairs optimally with the CS-M8200 10-51T cassette and supports a total capacity of 41T (10T minimum, 51T maximum sprocket). Mount type is direct attachment (conventional derailleur hanger). Connects to the e-bike system via SD300 connector, drawing power from the main e-bike battery. Requires a Shimano Di2 E-MTB motor unit and compatible E-TUBE junction.
