The BR-M8220 is the four-piston caliper in Deore XT's M8200 family and the strongest in the range, built for riders who want more power and control on steep, rough mountain bike trails. This version comes with Shimano finned resin pads.

Why resin pads with fins
Resin pads give a quiet, progressive bite that is easy to modulate, and the fin draws heat away from the pad on long descents. If you want more outright power and fade resistance, Shimano's metal P04C-MF pad fits the same caliper.
Compatibility and fit
Post mount caliper for front or rear. Shimano pairs it with the Deore XT BL-M8200 lever and an SM-BH90-SBM hose with a banjo fitting. It is a Shimano low viscosity oil system: use it with a low viscosity oil lever such as the BL-M8200, and never bleed it with standard Shimano mineral oil. It takes 160, 180, 200, 203 and 220 mm rotors (not 140 mm), including 2.2 mm-thick RT-CL750 and RT-6B750 rotors, with the right mount adapter for your frame or fork. Shimano recommends RT-CL800, SM-RT86, RT-CL750 or RT-6B750 rotors, which suit both resin and metal pads. This listing is the caliper only.
