The Shimano CUES ST-U4030-R brings hydraulic disc braking to 9-speed drop-bar riding for the first time, with a lever shape borrowed from Shimano's 105 series. This is the right-hand lever, combining crisp 9-speed rear shifting with the light, consistent feel of a hydraulic brake in a single unit built for everyday road and gravel bikes.

Control that fits your hands

Shimano reworked the bracket and lever position on the U4030 after studying different hand shapes, so the brake lever sits closer to the bar and is easier to reach from the hoods or the drops. Reach adjust then fine-tunes that distance to suit you.

Hydraulic braking at 9-speed

A hydraulic system gives lighter lever effort, better modulation and no cable friction to maintain. The lever ships with a straight-joint SM-BH59 hose kit and uses Shimano mineral oil, and its funnel bleeding port keeps set-up and servicing straightforward.

Compatibility & fit

This is the right-hand lever. In the standard Australian set-up the right lever operates the front brake and controls rear-derailleur shifting across a 9-speed Shimano CUES (LINKGLIDE) cassette; pair it with a 9-speed CUES rear derailleur such as the RD-U3020. Shimano's recommended caliper is the BR-U6030 flat-mount hydraulic disc brake, sold separately. Clamps to 23.8–24.2 mm drop handlebars. For a 2x drivetrain, match it with the ST-U4030-L left lever; for 1x, use the BL-U4030-L brake-only lever. Not compatible with mechanical (cable) disc brake calipers.
